Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh

Varanasi, or Benaras, (also known as Kashi) is one of the oldest living cities in the world. Varanasi has also been a great center of learning for ages. Varanasi is associated with promotion of spiritualism, mysticism, Sanskrit, yoga and Hindi language and honored authors such as the ever-famous novelist Prem Chand and Tulsi Das, the famous saint-poet who wrote Ram Charit Manas and it is aptly called as the cultural capital of India.On the 15th and 16th of Mar 2021, we interacted with some of the 200+ artisans belonging to a Producer Organisation in this region. Masters of Woodcraft which has been carried down through centuries, the artisans are an incredibly talented lot which is exhibited in their aesthetically crafted wood products. It was wonderful to meet such gifted artisans and the intense interest they showed in new learnings was truly an overwhelming and motivating experience.
