Shimoga, Karnataka

Located in the central part of Karnataka, Shimoga city is the district headquarters of the Shimoga district. It has been renamed officially as Shivamogga, meaning Shiva-Mukha or “Face of Shiva”. Throughout the different eras, Shimoga has been ruled by various dynasties such as Chalukyas, Kadambas, Gangas, and Hoysals. Vast paddy fields and several waterfalls enrich the landscape in and around this city. With its breath-taking natural beauty and amazing man-made structures, Shimoga is a traveller’s paradise.
A new Producer Organization was formed in the month of November in this district and on the 21st and 22nd of December 2020, we were so glad to converse with them at this critical juncture of their company when they have just started operations. Starting with approximately a 100 members, they are well on their way to increase the numbers as they go about adding more artisans to their organization. Since the set up is not yet completed, the artisans made arrangements to gather together in a small room and interact with us. The enthusiasm shown by the astisans to learn something new despite the limited facilities truly inspired us!
