Heaven on earth it is and you guessed it rightly, it is Kashmir! Amidst the beautiful valleys and mountains lies the district of Baramulla. It is on the bank of the Jhelum River downstream from Srinagar. Baramulla is the largest grower in the state, with apples being one of the major crops. 

On the 9th and 10th Dec, we were extremely glad to meet some of the artisans of a Producer Organization from Baramulla district. The 44 members of this Producer Organization are involved in the production of carpets from Silk and Wool. Needless to say, the carpets that these artisans weave are absolutely beautiful. However, the challenges faced by the artisans in this region of India are immense due to several factors and it was so very nice to see many artisans, craftsmen and company members whole heartedly participating in the interaction. It was a very encouraging experience for all of us.
