Barmer, Rajasthan

Barmer district, famous for its vegetation like khejari, ber, ker, and sangari is the third largest district of Rajasthan State. The district forms a part of the Thar desert and is situated in the western part of the State. Vankal Mata temple is a famous temple of Barmer where Goddess Vankal is worshipped. It is located at a 675-feet high hill-top in the western part of Barmer. The view of the mountain ranges, plains and valleys is absolutely beautiful from this spot.

Even more beautiful and wonderful were the artisans we interacted with from a Producer organisation belonging to this District on the 1st and 2nd February 2021. The 500+ artisans of this Producer Organization are Masters of Applique Craft. The enthusiasm and eagerness shown by these women artisans to learn and was indeed noteworthy. And the extraordinary part about the interaction was on the second day when we were welcomed through a religious folk song (bhajan) by these women. It was such an unforgettable experience for us to see these artisans display the ‘never say die’ attitude and the desire to move ahead and progress in life. Words are not enough to express the feeling!
