Surul is a village adjacent to Visva-Bharati University founded by Rabindranath Tagore. It is located in the Birbhum district of the state of West Bengal. A major part of this central university, with the whole of its Sriniketan campus, stands within Surul Mouja. During British rule in India, this Surul used to be a very significant area, being the strategic centre of business/commerce/trade and was also the site of a commercial residency under John Cheap.

Got an opportunity here to meet some of the artisans of Sutirtha Global Producer Company Limited on 11th and 12th November 2020. More than 500+ artisans are associated with this organization and they are artisans are adept in Kantha, Solapith and Leather crafts and Artificial Jewelry made from seed, metal, bead and dockra material. Had an excellent discussion with many artisans during the course of these 2 days. It was indeed a satisfying experience for us to do our little bit for these wonderful artisans of our great country.
