Kandhamal is a district in the state of Odisha. Kandhamal is famous for its local turmeric renowned as ‘Kandhamal Haldi’ which has earned the Geographical indication (GI) tag from Intellectual Property India, an organisation functioning under the auspices of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (India). It is a district full with natural beauties including wild animals and birds. The territory is rural, with a number of waterfalls, springs, hill stations, and historical and archaeological places. A majority of the land area of the district (71%) is forests.

Located in this district is a Producer Organization with more than 100 members specializing in Dhokra Art. We were extremely glad to meet some of these artisans on the 20th of January 2021. Despite the challenges faced by them, we could see the determination on their faces to grow and promote their products. They were extremely elated to get useful tips on building their organization and marketing their products. The joy on their faces towards the end of our interaction was unforgettable and something for us to cherish for a long time.
