The beautiful district of Sindhudurg is located in the Konkan area of Maharashtra. Flanked by the Western Ghats on one side and the Arabian Sea on the other, Sindhudurg is famous for its natural beauty that includes its beaches, backwaters, waterfalls, forts and pilgrimage centres. The major attractions here are the beaches, not to mention, the numerous forts. The famous Sindhudurg Fort was built by the great Maratha warrior King, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj chose this rocky island location to suit his strategic purpose of countering foreign forces, and to keep the Siddis of Murud-Janjira in check. 

Located in this district is a Producer Organization with 90 members who are experts in Wood Craft. We were privileged to meet some of these artisans on the 30th and 31st of December 2020. We can safely say that these artisans are masters of their crafts with some of the most exquisitely crafted products out of wood. The replica of the famous Sindhudurg Fort was breathtaking and unbelievable to say the least! We had a wonderful time interacting with these supremely talented artisans and in doing our bit for them.
